The Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act presents new challenges and opportunities for tribal governments to administer their housing programs in a way that meets their unique needs. As a member of the negotiated rulemaking team responsible for drafting the regulations to implement NAHASDA, the Firm worked to provide tribal governments with greater control over their housing programs.

Achievements and Actions

Represented tribal clients in NAHASDA negotiated rulemaking with the Department of Housing and Urban Development

Successfully lobbied to give tribes a more advantageous draw-down method of receiving their federal housing funds

Assisted tribal housing authority to meet HUD requirements and eliminate freeze on HUD assistance

Represented tribe that pulled out of umbrella housing authority

Drafted and helped implement housing policies
