FINANCE

The members of Firm’s tribal finance practice have extensive experience in assisting tribal governments and tribal entities in meeting their financing needs. Since 1995, the members of the Firm have been involved in numerous tribal financings. Indeed, the Firm represented the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut in the first large bond financing of an Indian casino, the Mohegan Sun Casino. This highlights the Firm’s longstanding commitment to providing assistance in tribal financings and the trust our clients have in the Firm’s tribal finance attorneys.

The importance of having counsel that understands the subtleties of local tribal law and tribal custom, federal Indian law, as well as federal tax and securities laws cannot be overemphasized. We work with tribal governments and tribal entities throughout the United States. Some of the members of our firm have represented such tribal clients for nearly half a century.

Our attorneys serve as counsel for tribal governments and tribal entities, as well as counsel to underwriters. As tribal finance counsel, we handle a variety of transactions, such as general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, loans, lease financings, short-term obligations, letters of credit, lines of credit and other types of financings. Financings have included: casino and hotel financings, re-financings and expansion financings; land acquisition financings; tribal administration building financings and re-financings (tax exempt); tribal museum financings; gaming machine financings; and vehicle financing (tax exempt).

Members of the Firm’s tribal finance practice also provide assistance to tribal governments and tribal entities with project development, competitive bidding, procurement, environmental issues, planning and zoning issues, tribal elections, gaming issues, tax issues, and business and economic development issues.
