Hobbs, Straus Announces New Partners
James M. Burson has become a partner in the firm of Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker, LLP. Mr. Burson joined the Oklahoma City office of Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker, LLP in 2003. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Burson worked for the New Mexico Public Defender’s Office and practiced with Quinlan, Bloom & Associates in Alamogordo, NM, representing the Mescalero Apache Tribe. His Indian law practice includes employment, construction, federal contracting, real estate transactions, business and economic development, oil and gas, gaming, education, and governmental development and taxation. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Burson served as a volunteer fire chief, city trustee, and Mayor for the Village of Magdalena, New Mexico while teaching school on the Navajo reservation and owning hospitality-related businesses. Mr. Burson earned his Juris Doctorate in 1999 from the University of New Mexico, obtaining certificates in both Indian Law and Natural Resources Law. Craig A. Jacobson has become a partner in the firm of Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker, LLP. Craig brings a strong background in government affairs, environmental law, complex real estate transactions, healthcare and economic development. For nearly 20 years, Craig has worked on behalf of tribes, Alaska Natives and tribal organizations on community development, land acquisition and repatriation, and regulations and programs that benefit Indian Country. He advises tribes on creating business entities and drafting tribal codes, on trust transfer of lands, natural resource protection, self-governance/self-determination agreements and contracts, and on a wide range of economic development issues.
